It Takes Two

This past summer, I had an opportunity for a second annual "It Takes Two" art show in Laguna Beach at Seven-Degrees Gallery.  I had been a member in a cooperative gallery for about a year with Sallie-Ann Swift, a contemporary abstract artist.  Sallie-Ann was one of those people you meet and you know you will be friends and you also know that you want to do something artsy with them.

When I started showing at Seven-Degrees, it was clear that my work would drown in this space so I immediately thought of Sallie-Ann.  Our work looks great together and we enjoy working together.

It was an ideal situation for me.  I enjoy working on a singular project for a year and seeing it all come together for a summer show during one of the best art festivals in Southern California.

Birds became a central theme of our joint shows.  Sallie's 3-D oceans needed something from me that would compliment.  Water birds seemed to make sense.

One would think that you have all the time in the world to work if your show is a year out.  It's anything but simple.  You have to think about the space, how many pieces you can produce and how they will show with your teammate's work.

Seven-Degrees is a unique space.  The gallery is used for a variety of events throughout the year from corporate events to wedding receptions.  The gallery hosts a reception for displaying artists on the first Thursday of each month.  This offers the public to come by and have some food, wine and enjoy the new exhibit.

One of the things I particularly like about the gallery is how the polished metal ceilings reflecdt the light and makes for some beautiful photos.

When the sun goes down, the entrance of the venue is stunning.
